He'd kill for a smoke and a Bushmills whiskey shot but deep inside he knew it was out of the question. He felt that the last elements of reason left were about to evaporate but surprisingly it didn't made him feel worry. Reason was the last resort trying to understand what was going on but it had been hours ago since his final effort to solve the mystery that was surrounding him. Whatever was happening had no explanation or logic and he was too tired to keep trying. He looked around once more. Under any other circumstances this could be an ideal, magnificent landscape. But he wasn't on a picnic or just taking a stroll for fun and joy, he was in an unknown place with no memory of how he got there. In fact, he couldn't remember anything. Who he was, who left him there, what he was supposed to do. Blank, total blank. A distant sound draw his attention. At the same time, a dark, strange shadow appeared in the horizon and that made his skin crawl. That wasn't good, no good at all. He realised that the shadow was moving towards him and was getting bigger. A sneaky, inside growing fear said 'hi' and smiled sardonically. =========================
He opened his eyes trying to realise where he was. He had no recollection of the place, he was damn sure he'd never been there before. He was in the middle of a pasture, covered in grass and flowers so high that reached it's knee. It must have been spring, the blossomed flowers, the mixed gorgeous smells, the light blow of a cool air, everything attested that the era was spring. But where was he ? He looked around trying to find a clue. He noticed that he couldn't see any land beyond a point laying approximately 200 meters away. Strange it was, he had to check. He walked the distance and suddenly halted. He was standing on the edge of a cliff, there was a vast chaos below, a chaos that his gaze couldn't see the end of it. It took him a few minutes to realise something dreadful. He was standing on a piece of land surrounded by absolute void. He freaked out. What was that ? How could this happen ? Where this piece of land was based on ? More unanswered questions added to the already existing ones. The fear that was methodically taking him over gained ground, grew more, eliminating his stock of reason.
==========================
That stock was the one that helped him noticing another strange thing. Although he was supposed to be in a field there was an absolute lack of life besides himself. There should be bees and butterflies flirting with the flowers, birds flying over, small animals running on the ground. Nothing. He was the only living creature there and this was somehow terryfing. It was more a huntch rather something he noticed that made him turn back. He felt the cold, slippery sweat in his palms and tried to wipe it out using his shirt. He'd sworn that there was no land south east, he had walked the direction and had found himself to the edge of the cliff. Now, inexplicably, there was more land added to the once frightening blank. He rushed south east and at the same time he felt his heart beating faster beyond any control. He paused once more. This extra piece of land was also surrounded by the same, mysterious void. His brain wanted to work properly but he found out that it was malfunctioning, unable to focus on what he wanted. Instead of getting answers he had to deal with more bizzare happenings. And then things just got worse.
==========================
He felt like a hammer was hitting hin steadily, rhythmically and repeatedly. The first sound ever since he found himself in this unexplained place should be a sign of hope and encouragement but allas !, it just made things more complicated and worrying. It was a sound coming from above his head and instinctively he looked up. He had never seen a bird like that before, no bells ringing, but he was under the impression that this was not an ordinary bird. It looked like those birds he was watching in documentaries about dinosaurs but he had no recollection of a name. But what was happening to that bird was far more scary. When it reached the end of the land it wasn't flowing over the abyss but like it was hitting an invisible obstacle turned back and kept flowing. He watched it over and over again trying to fly but even the bird looked trapped and limited to the land. No other life form existed, it was just him and the strange bird. He asked himself what else could go wrong and somehow, an unknown, superior power answered his question. This was weird, totally weird and it was getting weirder as the minutes passed.
======================
Soundlessly, magically, another small part of land was added to the existed ones. He knew he had more space to move since he started but it didn't seem to do any good to him. He rushed to the edge trying to figure out if the chaos was still there but stopped all of a sudden. Two things draw his attention, one in the air and the other one on the ground. The strange bird in the air now was able to fly to the new piece of land always halted when reachin the edge and two unknown but odd creatures were looking at him suprised. Their body was skaly, like a crocodile, 70 centimetres high, standing on their two back feet with membranes under to what looked like to be arms, biny yellow eyes and short, sharp teeth decorating the mouth. He lost a heartbeat at the sight, suddenly the oxygen wasn't enough and paused unable to take his eyes of the creatures. This was madness, pure, refined madness. What the hell was going on ? Where was he ? Why ? Again, the river of questions flooded, got wild and threatened to drown his remaining logic. His mind was crying out for a way out, he screamed without any order from his suffering brain.
==============================
He had no sense of time. There was a constant light all over the landscape but it was never getting brighter or fainted. Like him, time seemed to be trapped in this place with no ability to change a single detail. That was the monent he wondered if he was being in a nightmare, so vivid and real that felt like reality. He blinked his eyes, pinched himself a couple of times but that didn't change anything. He was still there, to a multiplying land with a bird flying over him and two unbelievable creatures gazing at him. He collapsed. He was on his knees, holding his head with his hands trying to keep his senses together. By the time he got up he already knew what had happen before even turning his head behind. It didn't matter how many new pieces of land were added, it had no use for him at all. A low voice informed him in whispers that he was hungry but he ignore it. He did the same with the thirst, despite it's significance, his priorities were quite different. New elements appeared on the land. Trees, bushes, something like a forest far away, a part of a river that had no beginning or end. At that point he realised it but he didn't bother anymore.
==============================
Trapped in an unreal world he knew that there was nothing he could do but wait. Wait for nothing or wait for something had no meaning anymore. His entire existence was shouting that this would end badly but he cared no more. He needed something to lean on but there was nothing. Around him the landscape was changing faster but he paid no attention. He was just standing there, a souless puppet, a body with zero response to everything. It was the trembling of the ground that brought him back for a while. The ground kept trembling, now it was more intense and feeling it coming closer. The last sparkle in his mind led him to look in the west. The sound of the trembling earth became louder and somehow he knew it was connected to that big, dark shadow that was moving fast towards him. Whatever it was he'd welcome it. No, it wasn't for good definitely but deep in his soul he knew that this unknown torture would end with it. The monstrous beast stopped fifty meters from him looking surprised. It hesitated for a split second. Performing a giant leap it covered the distance and fell upon him.
===============================
I.T.C ( Imagination Come True ) was the most successful company of its kind. Estabished one year after the Fegthrados attacked and conquered Earth, I.T.C specialised in toys suitable for everyone of this intergalactic race. Fegthrados soon realised that the palnet was a goldmine if it was treated right and that's exactly what they did. Slaving the human race was the smartest thing to do saving the planet from total destruction. Their advanced technology allowed them to make Earth an alive planet for anyone except humans. Due to that technology, species exctincted were brought back to life, pollution stopped and the oceans were no more giant trashcans. With most of the humans dead and the rest captured and used as meaningless slaves the balance was regained. The new habitants, Fegthrados, were ruthless but fair. They kept the few little goods they found and combined with their ideas Earth was enjoying glory days. I.T.C was one of the companies that paid to obtain humans scheduled to be used in the company's clever and marvellous toys. Liam Brady didn't know it but he had cost a small fortune to I.T.C. to buy.
=============================
The philosphophy of I.T.C. was simple but smart. Toys had the same effect to Fegthrados as in the culture of Earthlings or any other intelligent form of lives they had experienced in their space trips. And what made I.T.C.'s toys unique was the combination of simplicity with high technology. They started by taking extra high resolution pictures of anything that could be useful and interesting. Thanks to their technology they were bringing the picture in life. Then it was the shrinking. Depending on the desirable size the living picture was shrinked to the wanted level. Now, they had to enrich this picture by adding what the designing department of the company chose. When everything was completed it meant it was time for the cutting. Using tools beyond any imagination they cut the picture in pieces and that was it. Despite the cutting, the pieces remained alive and so was all the elements the picture contained. Theoretically, the next and last stage should be the most difficult. But Fegthrados' technology knew no limits, so even this stage was so easy to handle that even a kid could perform it.
===========================
Planting life in the picture's pieces was achieved using the 'shrinking' technique. Animals, birds, humans, anything that was required was shrinked and put into the pieces. That was what happened to Liam Brady. He was skrinked and put into a puzzle about dinosaurs for kids and not only. The owner of the game assembled the puzzle until it was completed. What would happen to the 'planted' figures was irrelevant. It seemed that anyone bying a puzzle like that was the proud owner of an alive, tiny landscape. Liam Brady didn't know that but even if he knew nothing would ever change. His fate was written in the stars, some damn black and unfriendly stars. He was human, expendable and there were some millions sharing the same deadly fate. Although the thoughts of someone facing death are at least interesting, for Liam Brady thought was a luxury. It would be quite unorthodox for someone to believe that Liam's last thought was to close his eyes and smile ironically. No, you don't act like this in a situation like that, especially when the jaws of a T-Rex have started to detach your head from the rest of your body.
